Untidy start and not well balanced with frquent blemishes.  Ensemble was very loose at times and the lead lines were not prominent.  It started to settle but the tempo lost some pace and drive.

Looseness returned in full ensemble and the balance needs much more care.  Fragments didn't link together always.  Solo lines not entirely secure and shaped.

R needs more dynamic effort.  Basses insecure but Euph does well.  Baritones unclear and untuneful after T.

Compound rhythms didn't always fit and tuning was an issue.  Insecure Duet and Euph in opening bars but good close and entry into Allegro.  This was again rather loose in ensemble and balance could have more care to make melody lines prominent.

Again very loose ensemble towards the climax.

Solo lines were very uneven and semi-quavers rarely fit in together.  The momentum built well but the ending was loose.

All rather uncertain in ensemble particularly in faster passages.  The pulse rarely settled and this caused uncertainty across the band although soloists were brave and mostly safe.

Opening:   Not together - but good balance to follow.  II: Rep and Sop not rhythmically as one.

B:   A little unstable & not entirely convincing.

Allegretto:   Well done

F:   Again quite loose rhythmically and the pace tends to be slow.  The middle balance of the band becomes quite poor so the whole drive is disappated.

O:   Starts really well - Lovely sound but the middle voices are not so secure as the upper.   P:  More shape to keep it interesting.  241:  Not as neat as before.  Good to S.

S:   Doesn't sit easily and is a little heavy handed

T:   Intonation especially between Open - Muted and Percussion instruments.  Ensemble becoming quite loose.  325:  Little stability - Euph want's to get this over with.

W:   Good pace & style.  X:  Becomes a bit messy so the whole loses impact.

BB:   OK, but what about < > in accomps.  Lead lines don't move together and there is little sense of growth - End strangely anti-climatic.

Too many insecurities.

Frank Renton.
